OTSP began in 1983 at a kitchen table with a $500 investment. The company was founded by Sally Jewett and Stacie Hunt from the seed of an idea to use satellite technology to distribute PR generated video to television and radio stations nationwide. The company began just as the Reagan Administration deregulated satellite usage, making this technology available, for the first time, to the private sector. Prior to that, satellite usage was only available to government and academic organizations.
Both founders came from the entertainment industry. Sally as a Director for Entertainment Tonight and Stacie as an Emmy-winning broadcaster. As pioneers, OTSP began their work in the entertainment industry producing and distributing Electronic Press Kits for the film industry. With the launch of Judith Krantz's first novel, Princess Daisy, and
Billy Joel's, "The Bridge", the company rapidly expanded to become the first to introduce electronic publicity to the publishing and music industries. Today, OTSP still enjoys the #1 position as the partner of choice within the music business.
Due to their professional backgrounds, OTSP quickly became known as a company that fostered creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and exceptionally fine production quality and results. OTSP stood far apart from its competitors through its culture of listening carefully to client needs and developing creative campaigns that best suited a client's goals and budget requirements.
For the first ten years, this attention to client needs allowed OTSP to more than double revenue year after year. The founders reinvested the profits to be able to attract and hire the industry's best talent and establish state-of-the-art technology. Over that decade, OTSP opened its mid-town New York office, followed by the Chicago office, located in the prestigious John Hancock building.
As the company expanded, OTSP became a leader in the healthcare industry, including 11 years producing and distributing VNRs for the coveted American Medical Association's "JAMA Report" series; the American Heart Association's "Scientific Sessions" series; and the VNR and PSA campaigns for the City of Hope. OTSP's non-profit business also grew with numerous award-winning PSAs and electronic publicity campaigns. At the same time, OTSP was creating its strong presence in the industries of consumer products and sports/athletics.
OTSP was also responsible for a number of industry "firsts" including the live broadcast of the first Victoria's Secret "Love" fashion show; the first international Satellite Media Tour for Chrysler from the Frankfurt Auto Show; the first Satellite Media Tour in the music industry; featuring the Beach Boys; the first Satellite Media Tour in the publishing industry; the first live broadcast of the Rolling Stones' opening night re-launching their reunion tours; a week-long domestic/international live broadcast tracking the record-breaking Virgin GlobalFlyer stunt; and the first-ever use of the Reuters sign to launch an artist's new CD and tour.
